6 Steps to Overcome Procrastination While Building Confidence

by Tj Helm on 07,31,0808 in Family & Parenting

By Bruno Logreco

Everyone procrastinates. It is a common fact, with more than 95% of the population freely admitting they will put off some task or challenge today that they feel they have time to complete tomorrow. The number of people who continually put off that exact same task for a second or even third day is a whopping 20%, making one-fifth of the population chronic procrastinators. If you are one of this large percentage, you probably have tons of good excuses why things can wait – whether it be how much time you actually have to how creative you feel, to how much motivation you can drum up. You put things off and you always have a good excuse.

Studies have been conducted for years on procrastination and the results of those individuals who repeatedly put off important tasks in their lives. Some studies go so far as to correlate procrastination to a person’s innate fear of success, using it as a coping mechanism to combat anxiety that comes with starting any new task.

What happens is that, when faced with a challenging task, a procrastinator will look at their skillset, their confidence in their skillset, and their general measurement of success in completing the task. Many times, they find they have little or no confidence that they can be successful in completing the task at hand and they then proceed to put the task off for a number of days. A prime example is the annual New Year’s Resolution – a challenging goal set by millions every year in an attempt to improve their quality of life. Subsequently, millions break their resolutions because they just can’t make themselves complete the task.

Many times, individuals will simply make decisions without thinking ahead. Procrastinators are not afraid of becoming involved – they want to be part of multiple tasks, proving to themselves and those around them that they can be successful. But, this impulse to constantly be involved more often than not only makes things worse as they start putting things off, building upon their fears and doubts and dealing blow after blow to their confidence.

At this point, it takes very little in the way of distractions to trigger a procrastinator’s innate response to a challenging task. Their anxiety continues to grow and they look for any excuse to put off their task and convince themselves it just isn’t time to complete it yet.

With all of this negative self-talk, fear of failure, and complete lack of confidence, many people lose inspiration and motivation to do much of anything. They hope that the next day will be a better day and that they will feel what they think they need to be successful then instead of today. All that happens is that the cycle picks back up again where it left off and procrastination continues.

Are you born with the procrastination gene or is procrastination a learned behavior?

There are multiple theories on why so many people become chronic procrastinators and the truth could go either way. Regardless of whether you grew up in an environment where you were constantly controlled and not allowed to develop necessary life skills, or whether your family just puts things off a lot, you must learn to overcome procrastination. Below you will find 6 key steps to doing just that:

6 Steps To Overcome Procrastination:
1. Write out all of the challenges and tasks you’ve been putting off – this might include everything from projects at work, to losing weight, or work around the house. Write them all down.
2. For everything you’re afraid to complete, ask yourself three quests: What am I afraid of? What outcome do I fear the most? What can I do to change the outcomes so that they will be in my favor?
3. Create a plan that will work – Break down all of the tasks you have to small chunks you can manage and then break them down even smaller into easily completable steps.
4. Think positively and ignore your negative self-talk.
5. Finish one task each day – Check off everything as you complete and don’t expect too much of yourself.
6. Monitor your progress and continue building on your plans – Look for three keys to success here: Motivation, Confidence, and Self-Esteem.

When you break down your procrastination and approach it one step at a time, you can start to overcome the factors that have been making your life that much harder for so many years.

Training Your Mind To Become An Effective Success Maker

by Tj Helm on 06,03,0808 in Personal Development

By Greg Frost

Unknown to most people, your mind is the key success maker when you do experience that occasional sweet taste of success throughout various junctures of your life. The mind in this case, as a success maker, has got little to do with how high your intelligence is, but rather, more on how you are able to make use of the full potential of your mind to achieve success. In this respect, training your mind to become an effective success maker is very important as it will allow you to develop yourself to the fullest potential in whatever you do, and ultimately achieve success in life.

The first step to training your mind as an effective success maker would be for you to live a life of purpose each day. How many times have you woken up not knowing what to do for the rest of the day? Make the break, its time to change. Rather than be aimless, start off by making a list on what you want to accomplish by the end of each day. This can take the form of anything ranging from your work matters to your family. In doing so, you will give your mind greater focus while subconsciously; allow your mind to move you closer to your goals during the various stages of the day.

Strengthening your focus as you go about your daily objectives is equally important. You would achieve close to nothing should you choose to have goals but let yourself get distracted by other things that come and go each day. Prioritize and be focused on what exactly you want to achieve. Remember, it is not only about a goal, it is also about the most specific detail which you would need to pay attention to which is the key for your mind to develop into an effective success maker.

Should things go awry from time to time, it is also important for you to develop a positive mindset and self-response. Typical for most people out there is to use self-apprehension as a means of response. Quit telling yourself things like “Why did this happen”, questions where there is the possibility of a negative answer. Instead ask yourself forward-looking questions that can only generate positive responses. A good example of this would be “What are the learning points from this’. Remember, there is no point in crying over spilt milk, what’s more important is looking ahead.

Last of all surround yourselves with people with a positive outlook. Ideas tend to be given more space to generate and flourish in a positive environment. Thus, fill your life with all the positive energy surrounding you. This will tend to prevent you from being exposed to negativity which would have the ability to have an impact on your subconscious. By staying positive, thinking positive and being in contact with things positive, you open your way to greater success.

Success is not something that requires you to have astronomical intelligence to achieve. All it requires is mere training of your mind. Doing so will allow your mind to work for you and be an effective success maker.

Your Success Depends On Your Motivation

by Tj Helm on 03,07,0808 in Personal Development

by Kevin Sinclair

No matter where life takes us, we all need to be positively motivated in order to succeed. This is particularly true when things are not quite going our way and when we have undertaken business projects that do not seem to work out as we would have expected. It is at this point that fear can move stealthily into our way of thinking and a little irritating voice says that this is not going to work.

So, what can be done? Well, for the most part, it is important that you steer clear of negative people. These people can, at times, be your own flesh and blood. However, this is not the time to disclose any doubts and fears that you may have in them. Positive and enthusiastic people should be sought out from your acquaintances, family and friends. Assume the positive and confident outlooks on life that they have. Locate a good motivational book. Return and re-tackle the issues that are holding your scheme back, whilst you are thinking about success. It is very often a case of needing to tweak certain aspects of the operation in order to get it moving.

If research has been undertaken by yourself correctly, then there must be a reason as to why things are not going so well. Determination will pay in the long run. If you are yearning to succeed, this will without a doubt provide the inspiration and energy that is required to get you off on the right foot and where you need to go. This is personal motivation in action. Positive results will be achieved when your energy and desire work together.

When things are not going your way, it is easy for you to become down and depressed. It is simple to just give up and give in to fear and misery. However, it is this approach that leads you to less success. Depression and loss of motivation can be increased when communicating with unenthusiastic people. In a sense, we are in actual fact what we deem ourselves to be, and we need to motivate ourselves in order to achieve.

In one way, it is more difficult to remain positive since is requires a great deal of energy. However, on the other hand, being negative takes your energy away, whilst being positive will produce energy. Motivation is produced when we remain positive, and results are produced from enthusiastic motivation. Nothing is a lost cause. It is just necessary to undertake thoughtful restructuring in the worst cases, or minor tweaking at best. All that is required to carry this out is the motivation and enthusiasm.

Life can be difficult. However it is imperative that you search for the positives in everything, including situations that prove to be difficult. It is important that you enjoy life and mix with positive, energetic people. It is simple for their enthusiasm and motivation to break through the shell of depression that is blocking up your life. Goals need to be developed, followed by you gaining the amount of motivation needed to drive in your life.

How To Achieve Your New Year's Resolutions

by Tj Helm on 01,09,0808 in Personal Development

by Bridgette Boudreaux

The New Year is here and so are your resolutions for the year. As you review your list, observe how many times you’ve transferred the same resolutions into the New Year with a promise that this year you will keep them. Make a real difference this year, don’t commit to keeping your new resolutions; commit to achieving your new resolutions. Implement the following guidelines and you will be on your way to accomplishing your goals once and for all.

Set Realistic Measurable Goals
Setting realistic attainable goals that are measurable is an important key to achieving goals successfully. If you set goals that are unrealistic and are impossible to accomplish within 12 months, you will be setting yourself up for failure which will lead to disappointment and a lack of motivation to conquer any goals. Goals must be measurable so you will know how much you have accomplished or need to accomplish to achieve your goals. For example, losing weight is a popular resolution; so if losing weight is your goal this year and you lose one pound in January, I guess you’ve met your goal; but would you be happy with the results? Probably Not! However setting a measurable goal to lose 20 lbs. and walk 30 minutes daily will allow you to track your progress and allocate tasks to reach your desired outcome.

Write It Down
Take it out of your head and put it on paper. Writing down your goals makes them real as oppose to dreaming about doing them sometime in the future. Written goals are specific and concrete and it allows you to create steps to reaching your goals. Your written goals should be placed where you can see them consistently. Post them on your wall, on the refrigerator, in your wallet or in your journal, do not put them in a drawer or notebook where they will be forgotten. Seeing your written goals will serve as a reminder to your commitment to attain your goals.

Take Action Consistently
You’ve decided what you want to accomplish, your goals are specific, realistic, measurable and written down, What’s Next? You must now take action, consistently. Start today with one task and continue to complete the task consistently even if you do not see immediate results. Your desired results will began to take form with consistent, persistent action. Consistent action becomes habit and it will become a part of your routine effortlessly.

Visualize The Desired Outcome Daily
Take a few minutes daily to visualize the desired outcome of your goal. Create a mental picture of what emotions you will experience once your goal is met. If your goal is earn a six figure income this year, visualize your bank account statement displaying $100,000.00 profit. What does it feel like? Your mental pictures will one day become your reality and you will be prepared for its arrival.

Celebrate Your Efforts
You don’t have to wait until you lose 20lbs to celebrate your success. Celebrate the completion of daily tasks. If you complete a 30 minute walk today and didn’t eat the usual late night snack, celebrate. Any tasks completed, self-discipline exercised or time taken to visualize your desired outcome will bring you closer to your goals than you were the day before so celebrate.

Start Over If You Get Off Track
If you get off track (hey, we all do), do not use this an excuse to stop pursuing your goals. Forgive yourself, determine what caused you to derail, improve the circumstances and start over again. Don’t become paralyzed with past mistakes, or lack of self-discipline, just keep moving. Each day is a new day to work towards your goals and get closer to achieving your dreams, so don’t let one day pass without taking full advantage of the opportunity to become better than the day before.

Success, Personal Growth – 6 Tips for Making Better Decisions

by Tj Helm on 07,13,0707 in Personal Development

by Kevin J John
The ability to make quick and definite decisions is one of the keys to success. The opposite of decisiveness is procrastination, the greatest thief of your time. You need to constantly tune and develop your decisions making skills to make faster and better decisions. How do you measure up against the 6 tips in this article?

You must banish indecision and procrastination form your life. Every time you put off a decision, you waste time thinking about it and loose opportunity that you could have had if you made a quick decision.

Here are 6 tips to help you become more decisive and make better and faster decisions.

1. Do not let yourself be easily influenced by the opinions of others. It is true that you should make informed decisions, but it is also true that only you can make the decisions about situations that are important to you. Other people’s opinions are just that and no more.

You will find it easier to make decisions if you don’t devote a lot of attention to other people’s opinions or even worse, your fears about what they might think if you make a decision.

Remember that they are not you. Their needs and perceptions of the situation you are in are different to you.

2. Only get advice from a very few people that you trust. Sometimes you will need to get help in looking at your decision from another perspective. When you need to do this find someone, or at most a handful of people, who can help you to review the decision that you are going to make before you make it.

They should be people with a good understanding of what you are trying to achieve and preferably with experience of success in the situation you find yourself in. These people will often not be close friends and relatives, rather they will be people who are trying to achieve similar things to you in your life.

3. Let your actions do the talking. One way to avoid the flood of opinions and negative comments that often accompanies a decision is to make the decision and then get on with it.

The actions you take and the results you get will show them what you have decided. And if it does not, wait until you are confident in the outcome of your decision before telling them.

4. Recognize when you don’t have the knowledge to make a good decision. Making quick decisions is very important, but sometimes you just don’t know enough to make a good decision. Learning to recognize that “you don’t know what you don’t know” will help you to make better decisions. Set yourself a timetable for acquiring the knowledge that you need, don’t permit yourself to spend a moment longer on gathering information than you need.

Then make that decision!

5. Be resolute in your decisions. Once your decision is made, stick by it. Don’t go and make a different decision 5 minutes later. All you will do is end up hopping from one fad to the next, never making any real progress.

Of course you must recognize that you made your decision with the best knowledge available to you at the time. With hindsight you may realize that you may have overlooked something important and eventually you may have to reconsider your decision. But don’t rush to do so. Be prepared to put some effort in to following through with your decision.

6. Write down your decision. Write down why you made the decision and what it was in a notebook or somewhere where you can refer back to it later. That way you can keep your decision in front of you at all times and remind yourself why you made it.

Being decisive is important for success. Procrastination will steal your time and waste opportunities that are in front of you. If you put into practice the 6 tips we’ve discussed in this article, you will become more decisive and make better decisions. Your journey to success in your endeavors will be shorter and easier.
